Ruffled Doilies
Crocheting a ruffled doily is always on my bucket list.
At this holiday time, I made two ruffled doilies with very different yarns.
The Nosegay Doily Flower Centerpiece
The Nosegay Doily was made with crochet thread 100% Mercerized Cotton, size 10, and #7 (1.5mm) crochet hook.
I tried to follow the original instruction from
http://web.archive.org/web/20050612013908/http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich/Nosegay.html.
Every step seemed ok until the edge portion.
For the life of me, I could not figure out the correct connecting instruction. So I decided to make
my own.
I noticed that each fan pattern consists of 16 double stitches with 1 chain stitch in between 2
double stitches. So if I made them as one unit before the joining, it would make my life much
simpler and easier.
I decided to make 1 single stitch at the ch-1 space. I also added 1 single stitch with picot at the
double stitch from the previous row except the LAST double stitch crocheting only with 1 single
stitch followed by chain 1.
I also changed the way picot was made. Instead of making a slip stitch at the 3rd stitch, I made a
slip switch using the single crochet beneath it. It made the picot much solid and appeared neater.
Each fan section I made 15 picots starting the first double stitch. The last double stitch is just a
single crochet. There is 1 chain stitch before and after the connection. The connection is always
with the last picot from the previous fan section. The direction of folding the fan is alternately.
This way of making the connection made my life much easier and made much more sense to me.
This also serves as my blueprint for the future ruffle pattern.

I found the next ruffled doily through YouTube:

This Crochet Flower Centerpiece video was introduced by pinknimo2000.
It was well instructed.
I used Simply Soft yarn with #E (3.5mm) crochet hook.
At the end, I decided to adopt one of her original doilies, instead of the video pattern.
Because of the nature of the yarn, I did not have to block the entire piece after I finished making it.
